The Faculty of Engineering, University of Peradeniya is the first engineering faculty in Sri Lanka. It was founded in 1950 and shifted to the present location at Peradeniya in 1964. The Faculty of Engineering is one of the nine Faculties of the University of Peradeniya, the most prestigious university in Sri Lanka located in an idyllic setting on the banks of the Mahaweli River and at the foothills of the Hantana mountain range.

The IEEE Sri Lanka Section, University of Peradeniya Student Branch won the IEEE Regional Exemplary Student Branch Award 2022 in the IEEE R10 Asia Pacific.

The Cooperative Agreement between the University of Peradeniya and Kelani Cables PLC was signed on the 14th of October 2022 at the Senate Room, University of Peradeniya. Prof. MD Lamawansa, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Peradeniya and Mr Mahinda Saranapala, Director/CEO of Kelani Cables PLC signed extending the collaborations by another five years.
